What started as a wild experiment in a 100-year-old building in downtown Eureka has grown into a brewery with fans across the globe. Lost Coast Brewery has outgrown more than one facility along the way, and they're bringing that same scrappy, full-flavor energy to Tahoe Brewfest 2026.

Who They Are

Lost Coast was founded by Barbara Groom, one of the pioneering women in craft beer brewing. Her path started on a farm just outside of Stockton and led to a state-of-the-art brewery in Eureka, proving that passion and talent can meet in the most unexpected places. As they put it themselves: women owned, unconventional, and proud of it.

What They're Pouring

A lineup that balances the easy-drinking favorites with something a little bigger:

• Lost Coast IPA — Smooth, full-bodied, and unfiltered. True to style, with a unique aromatic bitterness that drinks more like a session ale than you'd expect.

• Scotch Ale — A big, malty Scottish-style strong ale with low hop bitterness and flavor. Surprisingly drinkable for its strength, and a limited pour exclusive to the festival.

The Story Behind the Beer

Barbara didn't set out to build an empire. She just liked making beer, and it turned out she was really good at it. Years of searching led her to that rare intersection where passion and talent collide, and she's been doing things her own way ever since. Square peg, round hole, and all the better for it.

Right now, Lost Coast is giving a shoutout to a style they think deserves more love: Brown Ales. Their answer to "what should make a comeback?" Downtown Brown, obviously.

What to Expect When You Visit Their Taproom

A massive Great White Shark out front. Yes, really. It's hard to miss, and it sets the tone for a brewery that doesn't take itself too seriously while taking its beer very seriously.

Why Tahoe Brewfest

For Lost Coast, it's the whole package: the atmosphere, the music, the food, and of course the beer. But mostly it's the people. They're looking forward to socializing, swapping stories, and sharing a beer with the Brewfest crowd, hoping everyone walks away with a memorable day spent with friends and family over good beer.

If first-timers want to know where to start, the team points to their flagship Great White and Tangerine Wheat. Light, easy-drinking, and packed with aroma and flavor that bring the wow factor. In fact, Barbara's own go-to after a long day is a Great White, no surprise there. But Tahoe Brewfest is also a chance to see a different side of Lost Coast. Known for their light and wheat beers, they're bringing the higher ABV, more complex pours this time around.

Pairing tip from the brewery: their beers go great with spicy food, salad, or fish, so keep that in mind when you're working the food vendor lineup.
